What is chasing me?

You do not always know the name of the thing in the room with you. Search by what you actually saw or heard — a music box, screaming, a fake ID — and get the one response that works.

Showing all 7 threats

Marionette

Hostile: Yes — boss · Achievement: Last Performance (35.1%)

The music box decides the fight before it starts. Let the melody finish three times and there is no counter left.

The Dentist

Hostile: Yes · Achievement: —

Run. Nothing else works. This is the one enemy in the game you cannot fight — attacking it kills you.

Jack-in-the-Box

Hostile: Yes · Achievement: —

Keep winding it. The threat is the moment it stops, not the box itself.

Shrieking Doll

Hostile: Yes · Achievement: Silenced (87.8%)

Killable — it comes to you. You do not need to hunt it down.

Demented

Hostile: Yes · Achievement: Freed (75.3%)

Killable. Straightforward fight compared to everything else on this list.

Norbert

Hostile: No · Achievement: —

Leave him alone. Norbert scans as a fake ID on Night 2 and is completely harmless — killing him is one of the most common avoidable mistakes.

Doppelgangers

Hostile: Yes · Achievement: First Blood (96.6%)

Identification, not combat. They copy a real customer's appearance, voice and story — the scanner tells you a document is fake, not that the person is hostile.

The two mistakes that kill people

Attacking the Dentist

It is the only threat in the game that cannot be fought. If you try, you die. Running is not a fallback here — it is the entire counterplay. See the Dentist.

Killing Norbert

Norbert scans as a fake ID on Night 2 and is completely harmless. The scanner tells you a document is fake — not that the customer is hostile. See Norbert.
