Shift At Midnight Wiki

Multiplayer

Up to three players, online co-op, with proximity chat. There is also a full single-player mode. The thing that most often stops a group playing together is not the player cap — it is which store they bought it from.

The three-player cap is a hard limit

If your group is four people, one is sitting out. The game is built around three roles in a small building, and the design does not stretch. Plan accordingly before you organise a night.

Getting everyone into a session

Everyone must be on the same side of the platform line. Steam players connect only to Steam players; Xbox console and PC Game Pass players share one pool via Play Anywhere. Mixed groups cannot play together, and this is the single most common reason a planned session does not happen. Sort it before anyone buys.

Proximity chat is a mechanic

Voices fade with distance, so every noise your teammates make carries positional information. Running Discord over the top removes that and makes co-ordination worse, not better. Use the in-game chat — see the co-op guide for role splitting.

Is solo worth it?

Yes, and it is not a lesser mode. Solo gives you complete control of every judgement call at the counter, which matters if you are chasing the hidden ending achievements. Co-op is more chaotic and funnier; solo is tenser and more deliberate.
